 2021 Nutmeg Nominees Announced

The Nutmeg Book Award is a student-driven Connecticut program that encourages children in grades 2-12 to read quality literature and vote for their favorite book from a list of nominated titles. Jointly sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians (CASL), the Nutmeg Book Award Committee is composed of children's librarians and school library media specialists who are members of sponsoring organizations in Connecticut.

Each May the Nutmeg Committee announces nominated titles and children begin reading over the summer and continue through the school year.  Students vote on their favorite books in the Spring and winning books are announced May 15th.

The 2021 Nutmeg Nominees are available in print and digital formats (ebooks and audiobooks). Print books are available through the Douglas Library; digital formats are available through our new collection in Sora.

Check out the nominees for your grade and begin your Nutmeg reading adventure today!

Elementary (grades 2-3); Intermediate (grades 4-6); Middle School (grades 7-8), and High School (grades 9-12).

One Book, One Region

We are excited about everyone’s participation in this summer’s Region-wide Read of Hidden Figures.  We look forward to learning about your experiences in this activity and to promoting more intergenerational book-centered discussion as a means of fostering a spirit of community by bringing people together through literature.

And don’t forget, you can also borrow these and hundreds of other free digital books through the Connecticut State Library at: https://iconnct.rbdigital.com/. You will need to register. The access code is ctstatelib20.

Happy Summer Reading!
