Weekly Message from North Canaan Elementary School

Friday, September 18, 2020

Click on the blue underlined links.

NCES Family Check-In: Every week we will send this Family Check-In form.  We want to know how you are doing during these difficult times.  It is a very quick form that we will use to help in any way that we can.

Free Breakfast and Lunch:  We are now able to offer free breakfast and lunch to all of our students at NCES.   Click here to read a letter with links to record meal choices.  The following is a summary of the important information in the letter.

  • For distance learners, we will continue our weekly breakfast and lunch count ordering through the electronic survey.  Note that you will receive breakfast for the following day if you order lunch.  For example, if you come to the school to pick up lunch for Friday, you will also automatically also get breakfast for Monday. You may pick up the meals between the hours of 11:30-1:05 every school day.

  • Breakfast counts for students attending classes in the school will be recorded weekly on Friday through an electronic survey for the following week.

  • Daily lunch counts will be taken in each classroom at the start of the day.

We may receive funding that dates back to the first day of school.  If we are notified that we qualify for this start date we will return the funds to your child’s/children’s account(s).  It is likely that the funds for the free breakfast and lunch offering will only last through this calendar year.  Therefore, you may need to pay for breakfast and lunch beginning in January.  We will let you know more information when it becomes available to us.

Bridges Math box for use at home: All students in grades EK, 1, 2, and 4 will have a box of math tools (manipulatives) to use at home throughout the school year.  A copy of the letter that is available through the blue link will also be placed in the box.  Distance learners can pick up the box at the school during school hours.

Appropriate Masks:  Please read this letter from our school nurse, Mrs, Foley, regarding masks.

CAS Student Activity Brochure 20-21:  The Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) is offering virtual activities for students of all ages this year.  Click the link to learn more.

Scald and Burn Flyer:  This flyer from the state reminds us how quickly a burn or scald can occur.

You can always reach me at aroy@nceschool.org or (860) 824-5149.

Stay Safe and Well,

Dr. Roy
