Ski Club

Dear Parents,

The North Canaan Ski Club will be skiing again this year at Mohawk Ski Area in Cornwall. The bus will leave school at 2:50 p.m. and return to school at 8:00 p.m. on the four Tuesdays listed below:
  • February 7
  • February 14
  • February 28
  • March 6
  • March 13 (make up day)

The club is a program aimed at promoting activity where children can learn a new sport or perfect one they already enjoy. In addition, we hope that as parents you may want to ski and/or help chaperone; we welcome skier/snowboarders and those wanting to learn to ski or snowboard. Please let me know if you would like to participate in the club (my contact information follows).

If your child signs up and has never been on the slopes, I have found through experience that it is easier to learn with skis rather than a snowboard (lessons will be available.) New skiers must sign up for lessons all four weeks. I encourage anyone that isn't at a level 6G (see skill level groups document) to sign up for at least 1-3 lessons. The lessons are conducted by certified ski instructors in small groups based on ability level.

Mohawk offers Region One students a reduced season pass. If you have a season pass then there are not additional costs to attend ski club. Please see the Ski Club Sign Up form regarding costs. If your child plans on skiing more throughout the winter, I recommend renting for the season; it is much more cost effective. You can rent from Mohawk Ski Area, Catamount, Butternut and Kenver Ski Shop for about $100 for the entire season.

Once you have signed up for this club, you will receive more information as we get closer to the ski dates. Please complete all forms and sign up and pay by January 30, 2012.

I will also need certain information if you will be renting skis or a a snowboard. Please include on the side of sign up sheet the shoe size, height and weight of the renter.

Please contact me with all the information needed or leave forms with Renee Slonaker or the Main Office for me to pick up. Thank you.

Let it snow!
